Helping clients to stop smoking is usually the first thing people think of when they find out that I am a hypnotherapist. And it is true that hypnosis is a very effective way of ending a smoking addiction.

The traditional hypnosis method focuses on three affirmations which clients need to repeat to themselves whenever they feel the urge to have cigarette. They are taught this as a form of self hypnosis.

My Solution Focused Hypnotherapy sessions find a solution for each client. You have already taken the first step by contacting me. Your conscious desire to stop smoking now needs to be linked to your subconscious mind so that your brain can become focused on the solution.

Firstly, you learn about how the brain works and how you can use it to change, if you want to. Together we explore the reasons why your brain thinks it’s a good idea to smoke, even though all the information is telling you that it’s not.

Understanding the smoking habit is fundamental to stopping it. Your subconscious is expecting you to smoke and it doesn’t want to change. It has created an association with all the times that smoking helps you. When you are stressed or bored . When you have your first cup of coffee or that glass of wine. Perhaps smoking breaks up your day at work.

We then move on to changing these thought patterns. Identifying your strengths and setting achievable goals so that you can become an ex-smoker. This session is very positive and personal to the client.

We conclude with 30-40 minutes of hypnosis allowing the subconscious mind to “rewire” itself. Laying down a new pattern of behaviour, that of a non- smoker.
